Fewer bikes being donated for CPSO holiday program
Despite a seemingly greater need this year, used bicycles are only trickling in to the Concordia Parish Sheriff's Office for the annual holiday bike repair program for the area's needy children.
"We believe we'll have more children on our list this year due to the slow economy and national job situation," notes Sheriff Randy Maxwell, "but, so far, the bikes and other riding toys just aren't coming in like they used to."
"Christmas is for children, and we really want to be able to fill all the requests for bikes," Maxwell added. "To do that, we're hoping that everyone in the Miss-Lou who has a used bike or tricycle in the yard or in their garage will bring it over the to courthouse for repair."
The used bikes may be dropped off at the rear of the Concordia Parish Courthouse, 4001 Carter St.
Parish jail inmates will repair, repaint and generally overhaul each bike that's brought in, if at all possible. Those that are beyond repair will be used for parts.
Any individual, business or civic organization that would like to make a monetary donation to be used for parts or paint may send it to the Concordia Parish Sheriff's Office, 4001 Carter St., Room 7, Vidalia, LA 71373.
