IN TODAY'S SENTINEL -- WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 19, 2008 CHARGES AGAINST DAVIS DROPPED
Charges against former Ferriday Police Chief Robert "Rock" Davis, 52, of Ferriday were dropped this morning (Wednesday) during proceedings in Seventh Judicial District Court.
ACADEMIC GOALS SET BY SUPERINTENDENT
Supt. Loretta Blankenstein outlined instructional goals last week for 2008-09 during the regular meeting of the Concordia Parish School Board. To improve student achievement at all schools, Blankenstein said parishwide assessment teams will review each school's academic strengths and weaknesses and that "rigorous parishwide assessments" will be provided periodically to increase "math and ELA performance in grades 3,4,5 and 8."
BROWN EYES JINDAL'S FUTURE
A former Ferriday resident who knows his way well around the political world said Gov. Bobby Jindal would make a great president one day and can continue to enhance his clout by leading Louisiana to prosperity. "I think Gov. Jindal can be a good president," said Jim Brown, "but he can't let go of what is happening here," he said.
FERRIDAY TO HIKE TAP-IN FEES
Due to mounting losses for tap-in services, the Ferriday Town Council voted to raise fees charged to future residents and businesses who are provided hook ups to the town's sewer and water lines.
