Lady Trojans tip off with win
Ferriday's Lady Trojans have high expectations going into the 2008-09 season.
They took the first step toward those expectations with a season-opening 57-41 win over Franklin Parish in Winnsboro Tuesday.
"We had a lot of turnovers and I don't know if that had a lot to do with being the first game and the girls just trying to get a feel for everything,"
Ferriday led 11-10 after one period before outscoring the Lady Patriots 23-8 in the second quarter for a 34-18 advantage.
Recent Northwestern State signee Jasmine Upchurch led the Lady Trojans with 19 points, while Chante Poole added 15.
Ferriday's boys, replacing seven seniors from a team that played for the Class 2A state championship last year, fell to Franklin Parish, 69-60.
Both teams scored eight points in the first quarter.
Ferriday outscored Franklin Parish 19-18 in the second quarter for a 27-26 halftime lead.
The Patriots outscored the Trojans 19-13 in the third period and 24-20 in the final stanza.
Brandon Sims led all scorers with 22 points.
Dan Garrison and Demarco Lewis led Ferriday with 14 points each.
Carlton Robinson added 12, while Levier Pryor chipped in 10.
Ferriday was scheduled to host Rayville Friday, but the Trojans will now travel to Rayville Thursday because of renovation work being done at the Ferriday gym and the fact Rayville has a football playoff game Friday.
Ferriday will host Rayville on Dec. 16. |
