Vikings sweep Sicily Island

Vidalia High tipped off its basketball season with a pair of wins at Sicily Island Tuesday.

The boys struggled a bit before pulling out a 69-62 win, while the Lady Vikings cruised past the Lady Tigers, 63-40.

Vidalia led the Tigers 22-16 after one period before the Tigers pulled to within 34-31 at halftime.

The Vikings outscored Sicily Island 20-18 in the third period and 15-13 in the final quarter.

Quartrell Thomas led the Vikings with 18 points.

Karlos Gray of Sicily Island led all scorers with 27 points.

Torrie Dixon added 13 points, while Gary Stewart added 10 and Jacob McGraw nine.

Alex James finished with 11 points and Deon Dunbar had 10 points for Sicily Island.

In the girls contest, Vidalia and Sicily Island both scored 10 points in the first quarter and the Lady Vikings held a three point lead at halftime.

Vidalia outscored the Lady Tigers 16-8 in the third period and 18-6 in the final quarter.

Alaina Burns led the Lady Vikings with 14 points, while Gabrielle Wagoner added 13, Kisha Swanson 12 and Dejanae Harris 10. Angelica Branson of Sicily Island led all scorers wtih 31 points.

Vidalia plays at Monterey Thursday.

Vidalia plays in the Franklin Parish Tournament before its home opener on Dec. 2 against Sicily Island.
