Vidalia, Monterey split
Monterey High's Lady Wolves put forth their best effort of the season in a win over Vidalia Thursday, while Vidalia's boys cruised to a 68-11 win at Monterey
In the girls contest, Vidalia and Monterey were tied 9-9 after one period and both scored 10 points in the second quarter.
The Lady Wolves got defensive in the second half, outscoring Vidalia 11-6 in the third period and 13-6 in the final quarter.
Kendall Lipsey paced Monterey with 12 points, while Ariel Hector added 11 points, making 7-of-9 free throws.
"We had 25 turnovers, but we picked up our defensive pressure in the second half," said Monterey girls coach Cary Shively. "These girls are still learning and wanting to be good every time they step on the floor. I'm enjoying working with these girls, they work hard and are having fun out there.
Vidalia's boys held Monterey without a point in the first quarter, leading 15-0 before stretching that lead to 35-2 at halftime.
"We could not generate anything on offense either in the first quarter so we pressed," said Vidalia coach Robert Sanders. "We came out of it in the second quarter. The footbal players are still a little rusty. We have a lot to work on at this stage, but that game helped us work on some fundamentals."
Torrie Dixon led Vidalia with 16 points, while Quartrell Thomas added 10. |
