Block High head coach Benny Vault has always believed and shown the utmost confidence in his football team. He even cancelled a cruise next week because he figures his team will still be playing football despite visiting top-rated South Plaquemines in a Class A quarterfinal contest this Friday.

Vault showed the confidence Friday with his team leading Cedar Creek 12-10 and opting to go for it on fourth-and-one from their own 30-yard line.

John Bloodsaw got the call, broke six tackles in the backfield and raced 70 yards to paydirt to increase the Bear lead, one the would hold on to in a 26-10 comback win in Ruston.

"It was all over after that," Vault said. "We changed our defense up a bit and stopped them the rest of the way."

Block scored 20 points in the final period for the win.Cedar Creek led 10-6 at halftime with Block's score coming on a 24-yard pass from Curdarius Johnson to A.J. Calhoun.

"They were big," Vault said. "Much bigger than they looked on film. It didn't do them justice. And they didn't have anybody playing both ways."

Trailing 10-6 going into the final quarter, Vashawn Davis scored on a 5-yard run to give the Bears their first lead of the game.Johnson passed to Calhoun on the conversion and Davis put the game away with a 7-yard run. Bloodsaw finished with 156 yards on 17 carries.

South Plaquemines has won their last eight games by shutouts.

One member of the Hurricanes is the son of former vidalia high standout eddie ray jackson. sophomore bradley slyve is a topnotch athlete who can play cornerback and wide receiver and run like the wind.

"They are real confident and play with a swagger," Vault said. "They have playoff experience, but we are used to playing the underdog role and we're playing with a lot of confidence right now. We just need to execute well on offense and play solid defense. We're looking forward to the challenge."

The winner of the Block-South Plaquemines gamefaces the winner of the Oak Grove-Haynesville contest in the semifinals.
