IN TODAY'S SENTINEL -- WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 3, 2008 FARM AID PART OF ECONOMIC STIMULUS PACKAGE
Relief for farmers will be part of the economic stimulus package set to come before the U.S. Senate in January, Louisiana Sen. Mary Landrieu said this week.
"The crop damage in Concordia Parish is truly devastating, and I have made it my top priority to ensure that the appropriate aid reaches these farmers as soon as possible," said Landrieu.
FARMERS ENDURING CREDIT CRUNCH, UNCERTAINTY
Instead of deciding how many acres will be devoted to various crops next spring, many Concordia farmers are wondering nowadays if they'll have credit to operate.
"That's a big issue right now," said County Agent Glen Daniels. "The deal is cash flow and many farmers are unsure if they'll have any."
CHRISTMAS CHARITY FUND DRIVE BEGINS
The Ferriday Chamber of Commerce, the chief sponsor of the annual Concordia Christmas Charity Fund, has officially kicked off the 2008 campaign for the holiday fundraiser.
The fund, operating for the 20th year, assists needy families with gifts and food in time for Christmas.
CHRISTMAS PARADES THIS WEEKEND
The annual Christmas parades in Ferriday and Vidalia will roll through the towns this weekend kicking off the holiday season.
Sicily Island's Christmas parade will be December 12.
Ferriday's parade, sponsored by the Ferriday Chamber of Commerce, will be held Saturday morning at 10 a.m. The theme is "Rocking Around the Christmas Tree." |
