The annual Christmas parades in Ferriday and Vidalia will roll through the towns this weekend kicking off the holiday season.

Sicily Island's Christmas parade will be December 12.

Ferriday's parade, sponsored by the Ferriday Chamber of Commerce, will be held Saturday morning at 10 a.m. The theme is "Rocking Around the Christmas Tree."

Chamber President Rena Pitts announced that the Ferriday Garden Club and its members will serve as grand marshals.

"We are honoring them for all the beautification work that they constantly do for Ferriday," said Pitts.

Lineup will begin at 9 a.m. in the parking lot of Ferriday High School. The parade will travel down E. E. Wallace Boulevard to Louisiana Avenue. From Louisiana Avenue the parade will turn left on First Street and then left on Kentucky Avenue back to the high school.

Cash prizes will be awarded in the small and large float categories.

The Vidalia parade is themed, "Home for the Holidays," and will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. The Vidalia Women's Club sponsors the holiday event.

National Guardsmen and Iraq War veterans Ben Tucker, Chuck Sibley, Thomas Tarver, Jennifer Lyles and Donald Hooper will lead the procession.

The parade begins at Vidalia Upper Elementary and will travel up Carter Street to Vidalia High School. Line-up will be held on the riverfront. Larger floats will line-up along the levee near the school.

Prizes for large and small floats will also be awarded. To enter contact N. McLemore at 318-336-5608.

There is no entry fee for either parade.

In Sicily Island, the 11th Annual Christmas Parade is scheduled for Friday, December 12, 2008, at 6 p.m.

The theme will be "Joyful Christmas in the Island."
