Lady Trojans downs Franklin

Ferriday's Lady Trojans outscored Franklin Parish 54-15 in the first half and cruised to an easy win in their home opener Tuesday.

The Ferriday boys fell to Franklin Parish.

Ferriday's girls led Franklin 25-10 after one period and outscored the Lady Patriots 29-5 in the second quarter.

"The girls played great," said Lady Trojan head coach Lisa Abron. "I think the (Ouachita Lady Lions Hoopfest) tournament last week really helped us out. It was good competition for us. We played about six games in five days and didn't have a lot of time to stand around, which was good. But it helped us out tremendously."

Jasmine Upchurch led Ferriday with 26 points. Atasia Banks scored 16 points, while Ja'Lassia Davis added 13, Deonka Birdon nine and Chate Poole eight.

Jasmine Jones led Franklin Parish with 26 points.

Franklin Parish defeated Ferriday 61-51.

"Anytime you can win in Ferriday it's good in my book," said Patriot coach Wystee Kerry.

The contest was low-scoring early.

"They did a good job defensively on us in the first half, but we put a little pressure on them in the second half," Kerry said.

DeMarco Lewis led Ferriday in scoring, while J.C. Winn was the top scorer for the Patriots.
