Champs repeat at Ferriday tournament

Vidalia's boys and Ferriday's girls made it back-to-back tournament titles with wins in the Ferriday Invitational, a week after winning Vidalia's Ronnie Brown Memorial.

Vidalia's boys captured both tournaments last year.

"We knew Ferriday was going to come out and play hard in their own tournament," said Vidalia coach Robert Sanders. "We had to fight hard to win that one. We had one of our best offensive games against Tensas Parish, but gave up too many points."

In the final night, Vidalia's boys outscored Ferriday 16-9 in third period on its way to a 53-46 win Friday.

Ferriday outscored Vidalia 16-13 in the first period before the Vikings won the second period 13-10 to send both teams to the dressing room wtih 26 points.

Torrey Dixon led Vidalia with 17 points, while Gary Stewart added 12 and Tournament MVP Quartrell Thomas 11.

Stewart and Dixon were named to the all-tournament team.

Ferriday was led by all-tournament selection Carlton Robinson with 22 points.

Ferriday's girls defeated Vidalia 62-21, outscoring the Lady Vikings 30-6 in the second half.

Tournament MVP Atasia Banks led the Lady Trojans with 16 points, while Chante Poole added 13 and Jasmine Upchurch 10.

Vidalia was led by Gabrielle Wagoner with six points.

Vidalia High's offense put four complete quarters together on the first day of the tournament, defeating Tensas Parish, 93-46.

Vidalia led 20-16 after one period and 44-34 at halftime.

The Vikings outscored the Panthers 26-8 in their thrid quarter and 23-14 in the final period.

Torrey Dixon led the Vikings with 22 points, while Gary Stewart added 21 and Quartrell Thomas 11.

Vidalia's Lady Vikings fell to Tensas 51-36.

Tensas led 17-11 after one period and pulled away in the second quarter, outscoring the Lady Vikings, 21-4.

Dejanae Harris led Vidalia with 10 points.

Thursday's games between Ferriday and Tensas Parish were moved to early Friday because of the storm.

Ferriday's girls outscored Tensas 25-14 in the second half for a 44-31 win.

Jasmine Upchurch led Ferriday with 23 points, while Jalessia Davis added 12.

Upchurch, Davis, Poole and Vidalia's Burns were named to the tournament team, along with Tensas' Erin Fry and Morgan Robinson.

Ferriday's boys defeated Tensas Parish in the second game.

Demarco Lewis of Ferriday was also named to the all-tournament team.
