No pay raise for School Board Concordia Parish School Board members won't get a $250 monthly pay raise although five members supported a measure to increase their compensation during the board's regular meeting Thursday night.
Board members receive $350 per month.
The measure needed a two-thirds majority vote to pass, but came short at 5-3, with board president Gary Parnham, Deanie Roberts and Diane Baker opposing the motion, offered by Raymond Riley.
In addition to Riley, the pay raise motion receive support from Martha Rabb, Mary Campbell, Fred Butcher and Darrell Price.
Ricky Raven was not present at the meeting.
Riley said before the vote that the board has provided employees with raises, extra checks and other compensation and the pay raise issue for board members has come up a number of times. If passed, board member pay would have been upped to $600 per month, which is the state average, said Riley.
"We've brought this up three times," said Butcher, who offered a motion that the board not bring up the matter again during its present term.
Parnham said he didn't know if the board could legally do that.
Butcher's motion died for the lack of a second.
