Roberts resigns as Ridgecrest mayor Michael Roberts resigned as mayor of Ridgecrest at the town's monthly meeting last Thursday.
Mayor Pro-Tem James Cowan has stepped in temporarily and Dana Delaughter, assistant clerk, has been named town clerk replacing Judy Massey who resigned last month after accepting a job in another field.
Delaughter has served as assistant for seven years.
The town is awaiting notification from the state before Cowan, or anyone, can serve as interim mayor, said Roberts.
Roberts and his wife Tonya are currently living in Natchez.
"We have seven children between us and she has a bigger house so it just made more sense to move to Natchez," Roberts said.
Roberts worked at Natchez Regional but is now seeking employment elsewhere.
"I'm looking at traveling quite a bit as a nurse or possibly working offshore as a medic," he said. "Either way I will be spending a lot of time on the road."
Roberts took over as mayor of Ridgecrest when Guy Lain resigned on June 16, 2006, after accepting a job with the Louisiana Office of Community Service in children's proceedings.
Roberts was unopposed in 2006.
"I was glad to help out," he said. "One thing is for certain, it's not about the money, it's more about community service. There's a lot to it and it can go a lot longer than eight hours a day."
Massey resigned about a month ago, Roberts said.
"She got a better job offer and better chance for advancement," Roberts said. |
