WCCA sweeps Huntington

Huntington School dropped a pair of games to Wilkinson County Christian Academy Friday in Woodville.

The Huntington boys dropped to 1-1 in district competition, falling to the Rams, 65-43.

"They have some athletes and they got after us pretty good," said Huntington coach David Boydstun, who stepped in for Nicky Pere´ last week as head coach after Pere´ resigned for personal reasons. "But we have two weeks now until our next game and that will give us a chance to work with them some more."

WCCA led 17-12 after one period and 29-21 at halftime before outscoring the Hounds 19-9 in the third period.

Phillip Washington led Huntington with 17 points, while Josh Lee added 13.

The Lady Hounds also fell to 1-1 in district with a 46-35 loss to WCCA.

"I had three starters get into early foul trouble and when you only have seven players it makes it tough" Boydstun said.

The Lady Rams led 8-6 after one period and outscored the Lady Hounds 17-9 in the second period and 14-9 in the third quarter.

Julia Corbett led Huntington with 11 points, while Julie Moak added 10.

Huntington's teams rebounded from the losses on Friday to defeat Amite School Center in Ferriday on Saturday.

The Huntington boys defeated ASC 73-20, outscoring the Rebels 12-3 in the first period and 20-4 in the second quarter.

Kevin Brown led Huntington with 18 points, while Phillip Washington added 15. Josh Lee and Matt Swilley netted 10 points each.

The Lady Hounds posted a 47-35 win, outscoring the Lady Rebels 27-12 in the first half.

Abie Brown led the Lady Hounds with 18 points, while Sara Hoover added 10.

Huntington hosts Trinity on January 5.
