Guice named Student-Athlete of Year Northwestern State led all schools with six student-athletes among 24 voted to the 2008 Capital One/Southland Conference Football All-Academic Team, headlined by Demons receiver Dudley Guice, named the SLC Football Student-Athlete of the Year.
Also representing Northwestern on the team were senior receiver Adam Varnado, junior fullback Quinten Goodie, junior linebacker Blake Delcambre, junior defensive tackle Kendall Rodrigue and sophomore safety Lance Lacoste.
Guice graduated cum laude last May in criminal justice with a 3.60 grade point average. He took addiction studies classes this fall. The Fayette, Miss., native was the Demons' leading receiver each of the last two seasons, making 35 catches for 606 yards with five touchdowns despite missing three games and most of a fourth with an ankle injury. He had 78 career receptions for 1,207 yards and scored 12 career touchdowns, including two in two games against Ole Miss.
A product of Trinity Episcopal Day School,Guice made the Academic All-SLC Team for the third time, repeating from last year and also making it as a redshirt freshman in 2005. He was voted the Outstanding Senior Criminal Justice major by the social sciences faculty in May 2007.
Guice was voted SLC Offensive Player of the Week after his final game when he had career-best totals of 11 catches for 190 yards in a 34-24 win at Stephen F. Austin, leaving the Demons with a 7-5 record and a second-place finish in the conference race. |
