Story Archives: Huntington to host district tournament

Huntington to host district tournament
by Joey Martin - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
Huntington School will host the District 6A Tournament Feburary 2-7.

The top four teams from the District 6A West Division and East Division qualify for the tournament.

"Riverdale hosted it last year and they are in the west half and Tallulah hosted the junior varsity tournament and they are in the east half," said Huntington coach David Boydstun. "So a team from the east hosts the varsity tournament this year and Penny (Moak) was able to get us as the host at the meeting two years ago."

The top four teams from the tournament advance to South State, which will be held at Central Hinds in Jackson. The state tournament will be held at University Christian.

"It's an advantage hosting the tournament in that you play on your home court and you don't have to travel," Boydstun said. "Of course, there's a lot of work that goes into putting on the tournament."

Huntington has been off for the Christmas holidays and will return to action on Jan. 5 with a home game against Trinity.

"We've been practicing, but we're anxious to get back on the court for scheduled games," Boydstun said. "We were going to play in the ACCS Shootout Friday and Saturday, but that was cancelled. We really need some games."
