Funeral services for Mr. Billy Cannon, 80, of Monterey were held at Young's Funeral Home, Ferriday, on Monday, December 29, 2008 at 11 a.m. with Rev C.D. Beard and Bro. Jack Crane officiating. Interment followed at Lismore Baptist Church Cemetery under the direction of Young's Funeral Home in Ferriday

Mr. Cannon was born February 29, 1928 in Hazelhurst, MS to Dora and Talton Cannon. He passed away Friday, December 26, 2008 at Heritage Manor Nursing Home Ferriday.

He joined the United States Coast Guard at the age of 14 and served for two years. After his service in the Coast Guard he went to work with South Central Bell as a cable splicer and retired after 39 years of service in 1982.

After retirement you could find Billy on the lakes or in the woods as he loved to fish and hunt. Later in life he became interested in pool and bingo.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Talton Cannon Jr.; and a sister, Yvonne Hancock.

Survivors include his wife, Thelma "Pud" Cannon of Monterey; sons, Billy Wayne Cannon of Monterey, Charlie Cannon and Mark Cannon; daughters, Theresa Stephenson and Deborah Allred; and a sister, Elaine Anding. Also surving are their spouses, numerous grandchildren and several in laws and friends.
