Burlon 'Joe' Lipsey Funeral services for Mr. Burlon "Joe" Lipsey, 81, of Monterey, were held at New Era Baptist Church on Thursday, January 1, 2009, 11 a.m. with Bro. Bobby Ratcliff, Bro. Mac Walker and Rev. Huey Tarpley officiating.
Interment followed at Dewey Cemetery in Monterey under the direction of Young's Funeral Home in Ferriday.
Mr. Lipsey was born February 28, 1927, in Monterey and passed away Tuesday, December 30, 2008, at Natchez Regional Medical Center Natchez.
He was a resident of Monterey and a member of the New Era Baptist Church. Mr. Joe retired from the La. State Hwy Dept. after 32 years of service. After the loss of his wife, Joe moved in with his sister Maxine in Monterey and made it his home. He was an avid sports fan for the local Monterey Wolves where everyone loved to see him. He will be greatly missed by all the fans, friends and loved ones.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Isabelle Carlin Lipsey; his father, Tillman Vanner Lipsey; mother, Nina Boles Lipsey; three brothers - James W., Ivy V. and Houma A. Lipsey; and two sisters - Thelma Tarver and Floy Delhoste.
Survivors include sisters - Maxine Strebeck of Monterey, Melba Thompson and husband, Lester, of Monterey; brother, Aubrey Lipsey of Monterey; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Pallbearers were Van Strebeck, Lane Dale, Lanny Lipsey, Jerry Lipsey, Gerald Delhoste, Curtis Green, J.D. Lipsey and Paul Lipsey. |
