Vidalia High's final non-district scheduled home game proved to be a good test for the Vikings, who improved to 18-1 with a hard-fought 82-74 win over Franklin Parish Tuesday.

The Vikings finish their non-district schedule Friday at Tioga before the Lady Vikings host Marksville Tuesday.

Vidalia High boys coach Robert Sanders is actually trying to find an opponent for the boys team after the girls play Marksville on Tuesday.

In Class 3A, the girls begin playoffs earlier than the boys and finish up their district schedule earlier.

Vidalia jumped ahead of Franklin Parish 23-16 in the first period before the Patriots cut that lead to 39-36 at halftime.

Vidalia outscored Franklin Parish 18-10 in the third period.

Quartrell Thomas led Vidalia with 28 points, while Gary Stewart added 19 and Torrey Dixon 11.

In the girls contest, Franklin Parish led 18-9 after one period before the Lady Vikings cut that lead to 27-20 at halftime.

Both teams scored 15 points in the third period and the Lady Vikings kept it close throughout the final quarter.

Gabrielle Wagoner led Vidalia with 15 points, while Tyshica Rodgers added 12 and Erika Brown 10.
