Funeral services for Hugh Ira Cross, Jr., 83, of Lake St. John were held Tuesday, January 6, 2009, 10 a.m. at Comer Funeral Home Chapel in Ferriday with Rev. John Williams officiating.

Burial followed at Natchez City Cemetery under the direction of Comer Funeral Home.

Mr. Cross was born June 9, 1952, in Ferriday to Hugh Ira Cross, Sr., and Lena Rabb Cross. He passed away Sunday, January 4, 2009, in Natchez.

Mr. Cross was a lifelong resident of Lake St. John and a member of Lakeshore Baptist Church. He was a veteran serving in the U. S. Navy during World War II. He was the owner and operator of a grocery store.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dorothy G. Cross; seven brothers and sisters.

Survivors include two sons -- Hugh Ira "Butch" Cross, III, and wife Sue, of Ferriday, and James Michael Cross and wife, Jane, of Panama City, FL; four grandchldren -- Nick Cross and wife, Caronda, of Lake St. John, Michelle McDonald and husband, Nick, of Ozark, AL, Jesse Cross of Panama City, and Bubba Cross and wife, Cynthia, of Acme; three great-grandchildren -- Mitchell, Logan and Dylan; and a special friend, Marie Valentine of Lake St. John.

Pallbearers were William Russell, Ben Green, Roosevelt Morales, Jason Lushute, Bubba Cross, Tommy Faulkner and Alton Morales.
