Pins pushing clean up

New pins stating, "Let's Clean Up Ferriday," can be seen around town this week to support the Ferriday Garden Club's continued cleanup efforts before judging of the "Cleanest City" contest this Spring.

Ferriday Garden Club members, which have organized a cleanup committee, targeted Ferriday businesses providing the pins, information and suggestions.

"We are ready to do our part but we need help," said Dianne Watson, FGC Cleanest City Chairman. "It is very important that everyone participate in making Ferriday a cleaner, safer place in which to live."

She offered the following suggestions for businesses as well as individual property owners:

-Remove graffiti/repaint.

-Spruce up signs.

-Remove dilapidated structures.

-Haul away junk and scrap metal, etc.

-Clean windows.

-New litter receptacles on site.

-Plant planters, hanging baskets, flower beds.

-Clear out underbrush.

"Our goal is to foster renewed pride in our city," said Watson.

The Ferriday Garden Club is also offering advice and guidance if needed. Watson said anyone with questions can contact any club member.

Judging for the contest, sponsored by the Louisiana Garden Club Federation, will be held in April.
