MAN DIES IN BLAZE TRYING TO SAVE FAMILY

A Concordia Parish man died Tuesday night in a house fire on Haphazard Road while he was attempting to rescue another family member from the blaze.

BRIDGE PROJECTS NEARING COMPLETION

Demolition of the old Black River Bridge at Jonesville and the opening of four lanes on the new bridge will happen soon, according to District Engineer Administrator Ricky Moon of the Louisiana Department of Transportation & Development, Chase District.

DA TAPS MCCOY AS VAC, TO HIRE FIFTH ASSISTANT

Dist. Atty. Brad Burget has named Tron McCoy of Vidalia as Victims Assistance Coordinator (VAC) and is now reviewing applications for a fifth assistant district attorney.

MARTIN NAMED VIDALIAN OF THE YEAR

The Vidalia Chamber of Commerce handed out its 2008 awards Thursday at the Bryant O. Hammett Conference and Convention Center. Joey Martin of the Concordia Sentinel was named Vidalian of the Year.
