Huntington falls to Franklin, splits with AC Franklin Academy boys and girls teams shocked Huntington Friday in Winnsboro, as the Cougar boys played their best defensive game of the season by defeating the explosive Hounds 35-28.
Huntington never scored in double digits in any of the four quarters.
Franklin led 10-8 after one period and 16-14 at halftime.
Both teams scored eight points in the third period and the Cougars outscored the Hounds 11-6 in the final period.
Harrisonburg High transfer Caleb Kraxler led the Cougars with a game-high 16 points, while Kevin Brown led the Hounds with 10 points.
In the girls contest, Franklin led 12-10 after one period and 19-17 at halftime before taking a 49-43 win for its first district win of the season.
Huntington took a 29-28 lead after three period. Franklin outscored the Lady Hounds 21-14 in the final period.

Katy Little lit up the Lady Hounds with 30 points, while Mallory Welch added 12.
Abi Brown led Huntington with 16 points and Emilee Johns had 14 points.
Huntington School split a pair of games from Adams County Christian School Thursday in Natchez, with the Hound boys defeating AC 57-53, while the Lady Hounds fell, 33-29.
Tyler Pere's two 3-pointers late in the contest held the Hounds hold off the Rebels.
Huntington trailed 53-48 with a minute-and-a-half remaining.
The Hounds were down 53-48 following Daniel Guedon's basket with 1:30 left.Pere' 3-pointer and two free throws by Jeremy Randall sealed the deal. Peré led all scorers with 29 points in the game. Randall added 11.

The contest was tied at 28-28 with 4:20 remaining, but the Lady Rebels outscored the Lady Hounds 5-1.
Taylor Welch and Ashley Morrison led the Lady Rebels with eight points apiece while Rachel Holloway scored six. Huntington was led by Abi Brown with 13 points and Sara Hoover with 12. |
