Huntington upends WCCA

Huntington's boys basketball team avenged an earlier loss to Wilkinson County Christian Academy, defeating the Rams 58-41 in Ferriday Tuesday.

The win puts the Hounds into a second place tie with WCCA in the District 5A Western Division, which defeated Huntington in Woodville earlier this season.

"If we don't win that ballgame, we probably finish third," said Huntington coach David Boydstun, whose team hosts the district tournament Feb. 2-7. "We had a real good team effort and everybody contributed. This gives the kids a lot of confidence going into the district tournament."

WCCA led the Hounds 13-9 afer one period and 23-19 at halftime.

The Hounds outscored the Rams 13-9 in the third quarter and pulled away in the final period, outscoring the visitors from Woodville, 20-5.

Jeremy Randall led Huntington with 18 pointsm while Tyler Peré added 16.

The Rams were led by Todd Gonda with 14 points and Tip McKenzie with 13 points.

In the girls contest, WCCA defeated Huntington57-37.

WCCA led by just six points at the end of the first quarter and the Lady Hounds cut that lead to five points at halftime.

WCCA outscored Huntington 16-4 in the third period.

Julie Moak and Abi Brown scored eight points each for Huntington.
