Delta Music Museum Director Judith Bingham told Ferriday Chamber members Tuesday that there are still tickets remaining for Ferriday native Mickey Gilley's performances at the Delta Music Museum Arcade on April 5, 2009.

The concerts will take place one day after the Delta Music Festival.

Bingham told the Ferriday Chamber of Commerce that Gilley is bringing his band for the performances, as well as his comedian from his Branson show.

Tickets are $45, $30 and $20 according to the seating.

Concordia Parish Economic and District Development Director Heather Malone told the chamber she is planning on bringing a Choices program to parish schools.

Malone said she instituted such a program in South Carolina and it was very efficient.

"The program is two 50-minute sessions for eighth or ninth graders to teach them self-discipline, time management and money management," Malone said. "I will be looking for business volunteers to help with the classes."

Malone said she hopes to begin the program over the next few weeks.

Chamber president Rena Pitts, who turned her gavel over to Liz Brooking as the new president, said the Concordia Parish Christmas Charity Fund received $9,170 in donations and spent $7,330.

"We've got $5,000 in the budget for next year so we're off to a good start," Pitts said.

Ashley Powell, LSU Assistant County Agent responsible for Family and Consumer Sciences, discussed "Financial Fitness in 2009."

Powell presented a slide show advising people to develop a budget, set aside emergency funds, pay off credit cards organize important papers, plan for retirement, spend wisely, make a will and teach children how to manage money.
