District Attorney taps McCoy as VAC, to hire fifth assistant

Dist. Atty. Brad Burget has named Tron McCoy of Vidalia as Victims Assistance Coordinator (VAC) and is now reviewing applications for a fifth assistant district attorney.

Burget, 35, took office last week, replacing former DA John Johnson of Harrisonburg, who served for 24 years. Burget served as an assistant district attorney for 10 years, six years in the 7th Judicial District in Catahoula and Concordia parishes and four years in the 24th Judicial District in Jefferson Parish.

He was first assistant district attorney in the 7th Judicial District for two years.

Burget said Ann Siddall, Laura Boyd, Christopher Boothe and Karla McHand will serve as assistant district attorneys and that he will hire a fifth assistant in the near future.

McHand will handle the Child Support Enforcement Services program, said Burget.

"This is a program aimed at getting financial support from individuals who are not properly caring for their children's financial needs," said Burget.

Burget said McCoy's job as Victims Assistance Coordinator is designed to help "foster a relationship between the prosecutor and the victim of crimes."

McCoy, 39, serves as a Vidalia alderman,. He said he looks forward to his new duties.

"I think it's an opportunity to extend what I already do as a public servant as an elected official in Vidalia," said McCoy. "This gives me the opportunity to help victims of crime and make sure that during the process of seeking justice they are kept in the loop of what's going on."
