Funeral services for Solomon Smother, Jr., 82, of Vidalia were held Monday, January 26, 2009, 11 a.m. at Zion Baptist Church in Vidalia with Rev. James Beverly officiating.

Burial followed at National Cemetery in Natchez under the direction of Concordia Funeral Home.

Mr. Smother was born September 12, 1926, in Morville and passed away January 20, 2009, at Baton Rouge General Hospital in Baton Rouge.

He was the owner of Solomon Tire Repairs and a U. S. Army veteran having served during World War II. He was an active member of the Pride of Vidalia Masonic Lodge and the Rosewood Chapter #65 O.E.S. of Vidalia.

Survivors include two daughters -- Corine Fleming of Vidalia and Inez Duck of Gallatin, TN; one brother, Tom Kegler of Los Angeles, CA; sister-in-law, Viola Robertson of Houston, TX; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; God-sister, Corine Brown of Vidalia; a niece and nephew, Eliana and Vincent Kegler of Los Angeles, CA; numerous other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
