Vidalia dominates Avoyelles

Vidalia High boys dominated Avoyelles Parish Friday, routing the Mustangs, 79-44 in Vidalia.

"You have to win your home games in district if you want a chance to win the district," said Vidalia coach Robert Sanders.

Vidalia led 16-9 after one period and increased that lead to 43-24 at halftime.

The Vikings outscored Avoyelles 21-8 in the third period and 15-10 in the final quarter.

Torrey Dixon led Vidalia with 16 points. Gary Stewart netted 15, while Quartrell Thomas and Louis Whitley scored 13 and 10 points, respectively.

"We're getting more balance in our scoring and other people are stepping up besides the same three we usually have (Dixon, Stewart and Thomas)," Sanders said. "That's going to be important down the road."

Vidalia's girls fell to Avoyelles, 44-21.

Avoyelles led 30-2 at halftime.

Dejanae Harris led Vidalia with 11 points.
