Riverland joines 'telemedicine' program

The medical records of Riverland Medical Center (RMC) patients will soon be kept in computers rather than on paper and thanks to Internet technology, doctors in Shreveport will examine RMC patients in Ferriday.

Riverland Administrator Vernon Stevens told RMC Board of Directors Tuesday night that the hospital expects to have electronic medical records in place by March 1.

He said this new service is available through LaRhix, a health information system which operates over the Internet and enables health care professionals to access medical records from any provider database that is connected to the network.
