Eliser takes over at Huntington Leo Eliser will move from the first base coaching box to third base this season after taking over as head coach at Huntington School.
Eliser was an assistant coach for Mitch Ashmore the past two seasons.
Ashmore resigned after last season after taking the Hounds to several state championship series.
"It's different, but it's fun," Eliser said. "There a lot to it. But I'm excited and the kids are excited. We've had three hard weeks of practice and they've been giving 150 percent.
Eliser will be relying on several seniors this season.
Huntington finished third in district last year, closing out its season at 19-15.
"A lot of our district teams had senior teams last year, so we feel like we should be competitive," Eliser said.
Eliser will be counting on seniors Jordan Wilson and Josh Lee on the mound, although Lee injured his ankle in a South A State basketball game and will miss the first part of the season.
Junior Jess Dossett and sophomore Caleb Gillespie will also see time on the mound.
Senior Joey Roberts, who led the Hounds in hitting last year with a .344 average, will return behind the plate.
Junior Hunter Knapp and sophomore Matthew Humphries will also see some time catching.
Senior Jordan Jones returns at first base, while senior Aaron Maroon will be back at second base.
Senior Phillip Washington and Dossett will be at shortstop and third base.
The outfield will consist of senior Tyler Pere´, senior Drew Loomis, senior Michael Dekerlegand, senior Brad Thibodaux and junior Conner Hamilton.
Others seeing action are Blaine Fletcher, Jon-Michael Cowan and Brandon Horne. |
