Hounds fall at State

Huntington's boys ended their season in the first round of the Class A State championship, falling to perennial power Delta Academy of Marks, Miss., 92-60 in Flowood, Miss.

Tensas' girls upset Delta's girls 47-46 in first round action as Mary Miller Ratcliff netted 18 and Allie Kate Gossett added 14.

The Lady Chiefs play Bayou Academy Friday.

While the final game for Huntington was disappointing, getting there was memorable.

Tyler Pere´ tossed in a 3-point shot with 1.9 seconds remaining to give Huntington a thrilling 70-69 win over top-seeded Laurel Christian Thursday in Raymond in the South A State quarterfinals.

"We we were down by two points and drove the lane with five seconds remaining and Kevin (Brown) kicks it out of bounds," said Huntington coach David Boydstun. "They throw it in and we've got three guys around their guy and the whistle blows and the referee says their guy stepped out of bounds. This is all taking place in front of me. I don't have any time outs left and there's 1.9 remaining. I just told Kevin to set a screen right in front of me and he picked off Tyler's man. Tyler came off of it and put it up and it just kind of slid into the net. It was unbelieveable."

The Hounds trailed by 11 at halftime.

"We went to straight man-to-man and caught them in about five minutes," Boydstun said. "We went up eight and they beat us down the floor a few times and caught back up with us."

Peré led the Hounds with 20 points, while Kevin Brown added 16 and Jeremy Randall put up 15.

Huntington fell to eventual South State champion CM&I 101-67 on Friday. CM&I defeated Riverdale 77-65 in the finals.

Pere' led Huntington with 29 points against CM&I, while Randall added 15.

Huntington lost to Claiborne 49-36 in the consolation game to finish in fouth place.

Pere´ and Kevin Brown scored 11 points each for Huntington. Tensas' girls defeated Newton 71-56 in the quarterfinals.

Jordan Leake led Tensas with 19 points, while Ratcliff scored 18. Mary Elizabeth Crigler, Kelsey Doyle and Gossett all scored eight points in the victory.

Tensas lost to Claiborne 45-37 in the semifinals and were beaten by Tallulah 49-29 in the consolation game.

Delta stormed out to a 27-15 lead over the Hounds Tuesday and led 49-33 at halftime.

Pere' led Huntington with 30 points, while Kevin Brown added 12.
