Ferriday baseball still learning on the go
by Joey Martin - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
Ferriday High baseball coach George Barnes has upgraded the schedule now that the program is in its fourth year since it was rejuvenated back in 2006.

"The best way to learn is on the job," Barnes said. "We have eight returning players and we're expecting to take some big leaps. We've got two talented freshman coming in to add to what we have."

On the mound for the Trojans this season will be seniors Starlin Hawkins and Malcolm Griggs and freshman Dee Garrison.

Freshman Richard Jefferson will be behind the plate.

At first base is junior Gerard Webster.

Junior Nieco Amado, who hit .357 last year, will be at second base, while sophomore Davonte Scott holds down shortstop.

Senior Levier Pryor and junior William Greer will handle third base.

The outfield will consist of senior DaMarco Lewis, senior Kendall Boxley and sophomore Marques Lewis.

Barnes said Sterlington will be the team to beat in District 2-2A.

"They have almost everybody back," he said. "But otherwise it should be a pretty competitive district. Right now we're just looking to improve during the season, get consistent play and make less errors on defense."
