Vidalia opens with win over Monterey

Vidalia High opened its baseball season with a 23-1 win over Monterey Monday as Mason Ozburn hit a home run and added three singles while picking up the win, allowing one hit.

Vidalia scored four runs in the first inning and added eight more runs in the second before a six-run third had the game well in hand.

Jake DeWeese and Matt Souderes each doubled and singled. Ben Parnham had two singles, while Seth Barlow doubled.

Ross Lipsey singled for Monterey.

Vidalia will travel to Mangham Friday to play in the Mangham tournament. The Vikings face Block Friday.

Monterey fell to Avoyelles Charter 8-6 on Tuesday.

Ross Lipsey had two of Monterey's four hits.

Monterey plays at Adams County Christian School on Friday.
