Monterey scored at least one run in every inning as the Lady Wolves ran past Avoyelles Charter 13-1 Tuesday in Monterey.

Holli Clay allowed only two hits in the contest.

Clay doubled and had two singles in the game, while Lauren New added two singles and Casey White and Taylor Morace each doubled.

Logan Dale and Ellen Bairnsfather both singled in the contest.

On Thursday, Paige Bryan hit a two-out double to score Bairnsfather in the ninth inning to give Monterey a 5-4 win over Block.

Bairnsfather was the winning pitcher in relief, allowing one run on one hit in five innings.

Bairnsfather took the pitching mound after Clay was hit in the face by a line drive. Clay moved to shortstop before leaving the game.

"She's OK, but the younger girls really stepped up when she had to leave the game," said Monterey head coach Hazel Brallier. "Ellen did a good job coming in for

Monterey hosts Vidalia Thursday.

The Lady Wolves will compete in the Tioga Tournament on Saturday before hosting Harrisonburg on Tuesday.

Among the teams Monterey will play in Tioga are Merryville, South Cameron and Tioga.

"We just need to continue playing well," Brallier said. "Right now we have the bug going around school so hopefully we can stay well."

Monterey hosts defending district champ Forest on March 12 in its district opener.
