Story Archives: Ferriday falls one point short at Lakeside

Ferriday falls one point short at Lakeside
by Joey Martin - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
Ferriday High came within a basket of posting one of the biggest upsets in the first round of the basketball playoffs as the Trojans fell to Lakeside 55-54 in Sibley Friday.

"They know we let them off the hook," said Ferriday head coach Glen Henderson. "They know we came to play. The kids gave a great effort."

Lakeside was up one point with just 15 seconds to play and Ferriday had the ball. Ferridy moved the ball to half court and called time out to set up a last-second play. But Lakeside's defense forced Orlando Davis into a tough shot.

"We actually thought it was going in," Henderson said. "We should have called a time out and set up a different play because that really wasn't what we wanted."

Lakeside led 18-15 at the end of the first quarter, but Ferriday came back and took the second quarter 11-7 to take a 26-25 halftime lead.

A 20-14 run by Ferriday in the fourth quarter made the game close.

Carlton Robinson led Ferriday with 15 points.

Sam Wallace led Lakeside with 19 points and Akeem Johnson and Marlon McDaniel both added 11.
