The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will pay the Concordia Parish Police Jury $42,358.17 to repair two roads heavily damaged in the aftermath of Hurricane Gustav last year.

Jury President Melvin Ferrington met with a FEMA representative Tuesday morning to finalize paperwork.

The roads to be repaired are South Prawn and Deer Park.

Cost to repair South Prawn amounts to $17,173.49, said Ferrington, while $25,184.68 is the cost of repair to Deer Park Road.

"Both roads were damaged from the utility company trucks and equipment when the crews were trying to get the trees out of the highlines," said Ferrington. "They pretty well destroyed the roads in the process and this money will allow us to rebuild them."

He said each road is graveled and about a mile long. Both were saturated after more than 20 inches of rain fell in the parish during the storm.

"We have spent about $9,000 of work on these two roads," said Ferrington.
