Monterey nine in action Monterey head coach Eric Richard was hoping to get some games under his team's belt. He has certainly accomplished that over the last week.
"We've been fortunate to get in a lot of games," said Monterey coach Eric Richard.
Monterey picked up a pair of wins at the Monterey Tripleheader Saturday.
The Wolves blanked Georgetown 11-0 as eighth-grader Hunter Frey picked up the win.
"Hunter hits his spots, has good command of his pitches and I'm pleased with how he competes," Richard said
Sophomore Tyler Trant had three singles. Ross Lipsey doubled and singled, Chance Cooper had two singles and Taylor Campbell doubled for the Wolves.
Monterey defeated Harrisonburg 5-2.
Trant picked up the win and had three singles.
Ross Lipsey doubled and singled, while Cooper had two singles.
Monterey fell to Cathedral, 8-4 on Monday at Liberty Park in Natchez.
Lipsey had two hits for the Wolves.
On Tuesday, Monterey fell to Franklin Parish, 14-4.
The Patriots scored five runs in the third inning and added six in the sixth.
Monterey scored two runs each in the third and fifth innings.
Trant doubled for one of the Wolves' four hits.
"Ive seen a lot of improvement," Richard said. "We were striking out 10-to-12 times a game earlier in the year, but now we're putting the bat on the ball and making teams make plays. We've played some good teams and you can't make one mistake against the likes of Vidalia, Cathedal or Franklin Parish or that opens the door for them. We probably played our best seven innings against Cathedral and were down 6-4 against Franklin Parish before they had a couple of home runs. We're still moving people around from the outfield to the infield and in the batting order trying to get the right combination. I think the guys are getting more comfortable out there and the competition we've faced should help us in district."
Monterey will compete in the Franklin Parish Tournament, going against Franklin Parish on Friday before facing Rayville on Saturday.
