Williams earns Sooner Athletic Conference honor Former Vidalia High standout Chris Williams earned his second Sooner Athletic Conference Player of the Week honor last week after hitting five home runs along with batting in 17 runs for Northwestern Oklahoma State University, an NAIA school.
The award was Williams' second consecutive selection.
The junior batted .483 with a 1.034 slugging percentage in leading the Rangers to a 5-2 week. He was 14-for-29 with 13 runs, four doubles, four home runs and 13 runs batted in.
Williams, a two-time All-American at North Arkansas College in Harrison, Ark., is hitting .476 while playing catcher.
Williams was a four-time All-Parish and All-District award winner as a catcher at Vidalia High and was the 2004 All-Parish Most Valuable Player and 2004 District MVP. He helped the Vikings to an appearance in the 2002 state finals and the 2003 state semifinals and was chosen for the 2004 All-Star Game.
Williams, the son of Gail Southerland, has a 3.5 grade point average and is majoring in history with a minor in health and fitness management. |
