Jewel Chester Mason Funeral services for Jewel Chester Mason, 75, of Ridgecrest were held today, Wednesday, March 25, 2009, at 10 a.m. at Young's Funeral Home with the Rev. Richard Cullum officiating.
Graveside services followed at 2 p.m. at Greenoaks Memorial Park and Mausoleum in Baton Rouge under the direction of Young's Funeral Home in Ferriday.
Mr. Mason was born November 28, 1933, in Longstreet, LA, the son of Nathaniel Aiken Mason and Maggie Taylor Mason. He died Sunday, March 22, 2009, in Ridgecrest.
He was a member of Sycamore Baptist Church. He was retired after 40 years as a tug boat captain. Mr. Mason was a Masonic lodge member and served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Norma Higginbotham; one daughter, Perry Mason; and one grandson, Cody Ryan Mason.
Survivors include his wife, Minnie Wells Mason; three daughters, Terry Mason Ezell of Baton Rouge; Peggy Rogers and husband, Randy, of Walker, and Karen Free and husband, Jay, of Roxie, MS; four sons, Chester Mason and wife, Bonnie, of Denham Springs, Chris Thomas of Denham Springs, Billy Wells and wife, Lendi, of Cabot, AR, and Michael Wells and wife, Lizzie, of Ozark, MO; six granddaughters, Tabitha Goodman, Amber Wise, Whitney Wells, Tiffany Wells, Ashley Wells and Syndi Wells; five grandsons, Austin Jake and Heather Rogers, Logan Mason Rogers, Ryan Peairs, Joshua Wells and Shawn Wells; and three great-grandsons, Mason Bartley, Braydon Goodman and Blazen Goodman. |
