Story Archives: Lady Vikings on verge of win

Lady Vikings on verge of win
by Joey Martin - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
It's been that type of year for Vidalia High softball coach Graham Roberts.

The Lady Vikings appeared on their way to their first win of the season in Marksville Thursday when rain stopped play in the top of the fifth.

"I thought after four innings it was a complete game, but the umpire told me it has to be five innings," Roberts said. "So we will pick that game up from there when Marksville comes here (April 13) and then play the second game."

Vidalia leads Marksville 5-0 in the fifth inning.

"Everybody was hitting the ball and it was our best outing of the season," Roberts said. "It was our first complete game where everybody was putting everything together."

Vidalia fell to Buckeye 11-0 Monday at Vidalia as Lady Panther pitcher Tiffany Deville pitched a perfect game while striking out nine Lady Vikings.

"We just watched too many pitches go by," Roberts said.

Roberts also saw his softball tournament scheduled for Friday and Saturday rained out.

"I hate that because we needed the games and that's our big money-maker," he said. "We use that money for next year. I am trying to get a few teams for a round-robin, but everybody is backed up because of all the rain."

Vidalia plays at Bolton Friday before hosting Avoyelles Monday.
