The James O. Modisette Award for Library Trustees is awarded annually to honor distinguished service to libraries in Louisiana by a public library trustee. It promotes public library service in Louisiana through recognition of the services rendered by library trustees.

This year's recipient is Concordia Parish Library Trustee, Mrs. Marjorie Tinsley Vogt.

A graduate of the Charity School of Nursing in Shreveport, Vogt came to Ferriday/Concordia Parish in 1948 where she married Dr. Eugene Vogt and worked as his nurse. Despite the rigors of a full-time job and the rearing of children that began to come along, she plunged into civic activity, joining and devoting precious time to the Ferriday Garden Club.

A life-long library user, Mrs. Vogt has been a member of the Concordia Parish Library Board since 1991, serving as its president for two years. Under her leadership, the library passed a tax renewal with a 90 percent approval rating. She assisted with the tough decisions for two multi-million dollar construction projects.

She welcomes and greets citizens at nearly all the library's programs. She acts as mentor and sounding board for the library director; and she annually makes hundreds of rum cakes for community agencies with which the library partners for programming and other activities. Vogt always expresses in some manner the library's appreciation to citizens and other agencies. Since 2002 she has represented Concordia Parish on the Northeast Trustee Trail Blazer Board of Commissioners.

Vogt is an active church member, having served as past president of the Altar Society, supervisor of floral decorations during special events, and as an assiduous fundraiser.

For many years Vogt has participated in numerous other community and civic projects. She is a member of the Ferriday Chamber of Commerce and through her beautification efforts, she continues to assist the town in tidying up the community. In 2008 the city acknowledged her contributions by asking her to preside as Grand Marshall of the Christmas Parade.

She has served on the Ferriday Historical Preservation Committee. She assists the Concordia Parish Sheriff's Office in supervising and planting the gardens at the correctional facilities. She served on the committee to refurbish the courthouse grounds.

According to her peers on the Concordia Parish Library Board: "Mrs. Vogt is a treasured friend to all and acts as a role model to all for living an active life filled with community service. She is a devoted wife and the mother of four sons, nine grandchildren, and one great grandchild. Marjorie is just a very positive force on the Concordia Parish Library Board. She also has a special gift of being a good listener. She is willing to listen to new ideas and move forward. She wants Concordia Parish Library to be a part of everyone's life who lives in the parish."
