Vidaila routs Avoyelles

After two straight one-run wins in District 3-3A, the Vidalia Vikings unloaded on Avoyelles Parish, defeating the Mustangs 17-4 in Vidalia Monday.

Vidalia is now tied for first place with Marksville at 3-1 in district play, while Avoyelles fell to 3-2.

"We felt once we got away from playing three and four games a week we would be able to compete better," said Vidalia coach Johnny Lee Hoffpauir. "We changed our pitching philosophy up a bit to where we are using three or four pitchers a game and that's helped. The kids are working hard in practice and gaining confidence. They are understanding what it takes to win."

While the night air was chilly, Vidalia's bats were hot in the second inning as the Vikings scored 16 runs.

Ben Parnham had a single and double in the inning.

Mason Ozburn picked up the win for Vidalia while Laderius Durkin was handed the loss for Avoyelles.

Ozburn was 2-for-2 with a double, a singleand also walked.

Seth Barlow, who left a game last week after a foul ball went off his collarbone, added two singles.

Vidalia defeated Bolton 7-6 on Friday as Trey Lillie got the win.

Bolton actually had the lead runner reach on a passed ball in the final inning and he stole second and third.

But Viking pitcher Seth Thompson struck out the next batter and forced the final batter to fly out to end the game.
