Where's the Wal-Mart contract?

Ferriday Mayor Glen McGlothin said he has had no luck finding a contract between town and Wal-Mart concerning a yearly stipend.

After Wal-Mart shut down in Ferriday, former Mayor Gene Allen said Wal-Mart would present a check to the town annually for 10 straight years based on a percentage of sales. Last year, Allen accepted a check for $300,000 on behalf of the town.

McGlothin told Ferriday Town Council members Tuesday he has looked everywhere for the contract but can't find it.

"They (Wal-Mart) keep telling us they do not know anything about it," McGlothin said.

Wal-Mart representatives told The Sentinel they couldn't address the issue at this time because new individuals were now in charge of that particular legal matter.

Former Town Clerk Shannon Beatty said a contract was signed last year.

McGlothin said he has only been able to find a contract between Wal-Mart and the Town of Vidalia, but that he will get with former town attorney Derrick Carson to pursue the issue.
