Vidalia High has put itself in a position of facing must-wins in its final four District 3-3A contests after droppings its second straight district game Tuesday.

Vidalia fell to Marksville 9-3 to drop to drop to 3-3 in district play.

Avoyelles and Bunkie lead the district with 5-2 records, while Marksville is 4-2.

Bolton is 3-4, while Buckeye is 0-7.

Vidalia has regular-scheduled games remaining with Buckeye, Bolton and Avoyelles and a make-up game with Marksville which will be played April 25 in Vidalia at noon.

"We can't lose another game," said Vidalia head coach Johnny Lee Hoffpauir. "And these teams still have to play each other. We're only one game back in the loss column, but we have to take care of our own business. The reality is, right now we're not consistent enough to do that."

Marksville scored first in its first at-bat and Blake Juneau held the Vikings to one hit through five innings.

"We hit the ball hard, but unfortunately the gods of baseball weren't with us," Hoffpauir said. "If a couple of those could have gotten through, it might have changed the tempo of the game."

Marksville scored four more runs in the third inning for a 5-0 lead. The Vikings got on the board in the sixth on singles by Caleb Vines and Mason Ozburne.

Jake DeWeese then added a three-run home run in the sixth.

DeWeese drove in all three runs for Vidalia while Vines batted 2-for-3 with a double and a single.

Bunkie completed a rare regular season sweep of the Vidalia baseball team, defeating the Vikings 10-2 in Bunkie Thursday.

The Panthers defeated the Vikings 12-2 in the District 3-3A opener for both teams.

Bunkie scored two runs in the first and second innings before Tyler Gagnard connected with a 3-run home run.

Vidalia scored two runs in the second on a home run by Seth Barlow.

Vidalia travels to Buckeye Thursday for a District 3-3A matchup with the Panthers.

Vidalia High defeated Buckeye 6-5 on March 30 in Vidalia.
