Economic summit draws 100 in Ferriday

A crowd of close to 100 people attended Concordia Workforce Summit Tuesday at the Delta Music Museum Arcade as part of a joint program between the Ferriday and Vidalia chambers of commerce.

Sondra Redmon, Workforce Investment Board Director for Area 60, which is comprised of Concordia, Catahoula, Avoyelles, Grant, LaSalle and Winn parishes, told the attendees that the summit helps businesses develop partnerships, improve the workforce, invest services in different locations around the parish and develops and maintains economic development partnerships.

"I was absolutely pleased with not only the turnout, but the response we got from the business community," Redmon said. "It exceeded my expectations. There were a number of employers who could have been taking advantage of employee incentives that we do that would have saved them a lot of money. I think they were appreciative of the information we gave them. This is going to be a wonderful partnership."

There was also discussion of improving communication between businesses and schools.

"I hope everyone listened because this is a great opportunity for our parish," said Ferriday Mayor Glen McGlothin. "There are a lot of opportunities in this program and we need to get more involved with them."
