Lady Wolves fall in playoffs

Negreet scored one run in the third inning and added three in the fourth to defeat Monterey High 5-0 Tuesday in Negreet in a Class B first round playoff contest.

Monterey entered the playoffs as the No. 22 seed after finishing third in District 3B.

Monterey finishes its season at 12-13.

Negreet, which now faces District 3B second place finisher Kilbourne, is seeded No. 11.

Kilbourne is seeded no. 6. District 3B champion Forest is the top seed.

Ellen Bairnsfather held Negreet to six hits, striking out six.

Monterey finished with six hits in the contest, as Logan Dale had two singles.

Karlee Woodruff doubled, while Brooke Baker, Holli Clay and Paige Bryan all singled.

Monterey had four errors in the contest.

"Their pitcher was not that fast and we never adjusted," said Monterey assistant coach Joe Bairnsfather. "Every time we got somebody on base we could not bring them around. It was the same thing that has hurt us throughout the year, we just didn't play with any consistency."

Forest blanked Centerville 15-0, while Kilbourne blanked Marion 12-0.

Monterey moves into a different district next year with defending Class B state champion Oak Hill and Rapides.

"We've got everybody back, so hopefully we can improve over this season," Bairnsfather said.
