GOODMAN CHANGES PLEA TO GUILTY IN GIRLFRIEND'S MURDER

A Ferriday man, who killed his girlfriend and then hid her body for two days, pled guilty to manslaughter this morning (Wednesday) in Seventh Judicial District Court in Vidalia.

INTEREST BUILDING IN VIDALIA PORT

Two key issues concerning Vidalia's proposed $15 million port facility were discussed and resolved with the Corps of Engineers during a recent meeting, said Mayor Hyram Copeland.

AIRPORT BID AWARDED; JURY EYES DRAINAGE

Hi-Lite Markings, Inc., was the low bidder at $99,906 for maintenance and upgrading at the Concordia Parish Airport at Vidalia.

CODE RED WEATHER WARNING PROGRAM ON TAP

The Concordia Parish Police Jury is expected to help finance the parishwide Code Red weather warning system at its next meeting following a presentation of the program Monday night.

SESSION 'OVERSHADOWED' BY SHORTFALL

The 2009 session of the state Legislature will be overshadowed by a projected $1.3 billion budget deficit. Speaking at the opening of the session on Monday, Gov. Bobby Jindal said there will be no "easy fixes" for the budget crunch and Riser agreed.

RELAY FOR LIFE SLATED FRIDAY

The Miss-Lou Relay for Life, which had to be postponed a month last year because of wet grounds as a result of flooding of the Mississippi River, is scheduled to take place Friday at the Vidalia Riverfront.
