Brown shines at South State

Huntington's girls placed seventh at South A State track meet, while the Huntington boys were ninth.

"It was really kind of weird because this was the first time I didn't have at least eight events going at South State," said Huntington coach Penny Moak. "Kids just don't want to run."

Junior Abi Brown won the 100-hurdles in 16.53 and the 300-hurdles in 49.03.

"Abi has been sick, but she really wants to go after the state record and if she is pushed she has a chance," Moak said.

Senior Katie Gray finished fifth in the 3200-run with a time of 14:42.

Sophomore Andreas Swanson was fourth in the 100-dash at 12.0.

The Hound relay team of Swanson, Jacob Beatty, Jeremy Randall, Joey Roberts and Jess Dossett placed second at 1:36.29.

Tensas Academy eighth-grader Allie Kate Gossett won the 200-dash in 28.16 and the long jump with a leap of 15 feet, 4.75 inches. She was second in the 100-dash at 13.17.

The State meet will be held at Mississippi College Friday and Saturday.
