Lady Hounds net wins Huntington's girls tennis team continues play in the MPSA Class A State Tennis Tournament today (Wednesday) after getting wins in the South A State Tournament Tuesday at Duncan Park and Trinity Episcopal's tennis court.
The top two finishers in each category advance to State.
Huntington served as the host team of the tournament.
In No. 1 girls singles, Huntington's Julie Moak defeated Beth Padgett of Franklin Academy, 6-2, 6-4. in the first round and advanced to the semifinals with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Ashley Howard.
Emilee Johns of Huntington defeated Rayanne Craven of Newton, 6-0, 6-1 to reach the semifinals.
Huntington's No. 2 girls doubles top-seeded team of Abbey Ashmore and Allie Boothe was upset in the semifinals by Tensas Academy's Amma Arceneaux and Paige Plaisance, 6-4, 5-7, 6-3.
Sara Hoover and Julia Corbett, the No. 2 seed in the No. 1 girls doubles, fell to No. 3 WCCA's Hannah Ashley and Caroline Walker 6-3, 6-2.
In boys action, Huntington's Colby Gray fell to Andrew Hanna of Newton, 6-7, 6-0, 10-5.
Huntington's No. 1 boys doubles team of Cody Dye and Anthony Olds fell to Jacob Proctor and Pete Willoughby of Wayne, 6-4, 6-3.
Tensas' Sarah Russell fell to Jennifer Chaffin of WCCA, 6-0, 6-1.
Tensas' Lauchlyn Emfinger fell to Carol Johnson of WCCA, 6-3, 4-6, 10-5.
Mary Elizabeth Crigler and Jordan Leake of Tensas won two matches Tuesday to advance to the finals. |
