Hanna papers win 13 press awards Hanna Newspapers -- The Concordia Sentinel of Ferriday, Franklin Sun of Winnsboro and Ouachita Citizen of West Monroe -- combined to win 13 awards Saturday at the 129th Annual Louisiana Press Association Convention in Baton Rouge.
All three compete in the Division 5 Weekly category. Seventy-nine newspapers, publications and college/university student newspapers competed statewide. Entries were judged by the Kansas Press Association.
Sentinel Editor Stanley Nelson received a 1st place award for Best Investigative Reporting for the newspaper's ongoing probe into the 1964 murder of Ferriday shoe shop owner Frank Morris and related murder cases.
A 1st place award was also garnered by Barbara Jackson for advertising.
Joey Martin won third place awards for Best Overall Sports Coverage and Best News Photo.
The Franklin Sun's Katie Norwood received 1st, 2nd and 3rd place awards for Graphic Design, while the paper won a 2nd place for Best Lifestyle Coverage. Monica Huff received two 2nd place awards -- one for Best Headline and the other for Best Sports Photo.
The Ouachita Citizen received a 1st place for Best Photo Package by Scott Rogers, 2nd for Best Editorial Page and 3rd for Best Single Editorial by Sam Hanna Jr. |
