Lady Hounds net South State win

Huntington's girls used strong play in singles to win the South A State Tennis Tournament in Natchez on April 29.

The Lady Hounds finished with 10 points, a half-point ahead of Wilkinson County Christian Academy.

Julie Moak reached the finals in No. 1 girls singles, while Emilee Johns reached the finals in No. 2 girls singles.

Moak defeated Hanna Peoples of Newton 6-1, 6-0 in the semifinals.

Moak fell to Madison Moorehead of Glenbrook in the finals.

Johns defeated Carol Johnson of WCCA, 6-0, 6-1 before losing to Lindy Carroll of Franklin Academy in the finals.

Moak and Johns will be competing in the Class A State Tournament today (Wednesday) in Jackson.

Mary Elizabeth Crigler and Jordan Leake defeated Hannah Ashley and Caroline Walker of WCCA in the No. 1 girls doubles.

Emma Arceneaux and Paige Plaisance of Tensas fell to Ali Cegielski and Erin Morgan of Laurel Christian School in the No. 2 girls doubles finals.
